Sagar Joshi (born 2 July 1980) is an Indian education entrepreneur, lawyer, and the founder of Law Prep Tutorial (LPT EdTech). He is known for his role in the development and expansion of law entrance examination preparation in India, particularly for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), and for advocacy related to transparency in law entrance examinations.
Joshi is credited with contributing to the mainstreaming of law as a career option in India during the early 2000s and for building one of the country’s largest law entrance coaching networks.
Sagar Joshi was born on 2 July 1980 in India. He pursued legal education and earned a BSc LLB degree. He later began his professional career with a focus on legal education and student mentorship.
In 2002, Sagar Joshi founded Law Prep Tutorial in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, starting with a single classroom operating from a basement. At the time, law was not widely perceived as a mainstream career choice, and structured preparation for top law colleges was limited.
Joshi established the institute with the objective of providing focused preparation for admission into leading law colleges in India and promoting law as a viable professional career comparable to engineering, medicine, and chartered accountancy.
When the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) was introduced in 2008 as a centralized entrance examination for National Law Universities (NLUs), Law Prep Tutorial became one of the early institutes to design programs specifically aligned with the CLAT format.
Under Joshi’s leadership, the institute expanded its academic framework, faculty strength, and student outreach, aligning its curriculum with evolving examination patterns.
In 2013, Sagar Joshi filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking greater transparency in the CLAT examination process. The petition demanded:
The initiative resulted in procedural changes that allowed students to assess their performance prior to the declaration of final results.
Sagar Joshi also pursued legal efforts advocating for domicile-based reservation for students from Rajasthan at NLU Jodhpur. After prolonged legal proceedings, domicile reservation for local students was implemented in 2023.
Sagar Joshi has received multiple awards for contributions to education, including:
